Digital Yacht at Boot 2020 with AIS Internet of Things Applications
(boot Düsseldorf 18-26 Jan 2020 – Hall 10 A29)

AIS vessel tracking can now enable IOT applications for port & marina management

Digital Yacht will reveal some interesting new solutions using AIS technology at Boot 2020 (18-26 January, Dusseldorf).  They’ve introduced AISNET, a new AIS base station receiver designed for internet monitoring of AIS data.  Local AIS traffic is received and sent to a web server which can run sophisticated internet of things (IOT) type scenarios such as seeing if a vessel is entering a prohibited zone or on a dangerous transit.  Boat charter companies can track their fleet or even use the track data to charge for power by the hour fuel useage. Because AIS signals are sent over VHF frequencies, there’s no expensive data costs through satellite or cellular operators – all that’s required is an AISNET within range and connected to the web.

AISNet with built in VHF splitter

“There are obvious commercial applications for shipping and ferries – and we’re already seeing ferry companies integrating data from AIS into their online arrivals and departures board” commented Nick Heyes, CEO of Digital Yacht.  “Once data is available for the server, IOT applications are easy to develop for monitoring, security and safety alarms based on an ‘if this happens, do that’ – for instance, send a SMS, email alert etc”

AIS data from weather buoys with an ATON (AIS Aid to Navigation) can also be interrogated to add local wind, wave, pressure and temperature information to a solution too.  It opens up limitless possibilities for marine apps.†

AISNET is priced at £395/€515 ex vat and is available now.  Visit www.digitalyacht.co.uk for more information or find it on display at Boot 2020, Hall 10 A29.
