CAVOK – A non-stop round-the-world race via the three capes.
(Afloat on Pontoon 2)

…A first in a standard-built catamaran, a Lagoon 400 S. Why Cavok? This acronym stands for Ciel and Visibility OK… (Sky and Visibility OK).  A sort of good omen for Jean-Pierre Fréry, ULA enthusiast. His 400 S2 is No. 544 in the series. Already renowned for its robustness and reliability, optimization has nevertheless been applied to the Cavok, readying it for long sea crossings in inhospitable waters.
The nonstop round the world event to be raced by Cavok will be from west to east, generally taking advantage of the prevailing winds. The total sailing distance on this round the world trip is approximately 22,000 miles and the planned sailing time is between 135 and 150 days, working out to an average of between 6.2 and 6.8 kn.
The Cavok crew will benefit from the support of a benchmark routemaster, Christian Dumard from the Great Circle –

EKOLIBRI, round the world sailing aimed at “zero waste”  (afloat on Pontoon 2)
After sailing from Morbihan in 2016, Igor, Joaquim, Brendan and Robin, four childhood friends are back after a 2 year round-the-world trip on their 1977 Gin Fizz, Ekolibri. Self-sufficient for its energy, with an interior vegetable garden and a henhouse with two hens, the boat has been renovated and adapted to this Adventure before Departure. Via a web series about “how to live with zero waste” and reports about the Sustainable Development initiatives across the world, the idea behind the project is to raise awareness of the problem of waste, the challenges of sustainable development and the concept of a circular economy.
How do you live on a boat with zero waste? Was the challenge taken up? Is it easy to live with two hens on a boat? Do you come across much waste at sea?
The crew will be pleased to answer your questions during the Grand Pavois de La Rochelle. . sailingforchange.com/

ANNE QUÉMÉRÉ, solar single hull Artic crossing (conference)
Anne is setting out on her “Arctic Solar By Icade” Arctic Crossing adventure.  After two attempts in a kayak, this time she will be sailing in a 6 m long 2 m beam solar single-hull boat.  For the third time, she will be crossing in the glacially cold waters of the Beaufort Sea in the mythical Northwest passage in Canada. “Global warming is causing the ice to break free in these areas. It is for this reason that I will be able to get through”, points out the sailor. Primarily, the project is ecological and Anne Quéméré intends to raise the awareness of the people through her exploit. For her, the “name of the game is to get out of the Northwest passage”. To do this, she will be sailing from the port of Tuktoyaktuk then traveling 3500 km before reaching the village of Pond Ilet. She will have the opportunity of observing the blooming plankton at the exact time it is released by the ice. Her observations should be particularly relevant because they will be made in a totally virgin biotope. Anne will be holding a conference in the show on her return but her boat, still in the Arctic, will not be there.

KHONG SAO – a bamboo bio composite boat (ashore in the Patrimoine et Tradition space)
Le Grand Pavois will once again be delighted to welcome Waterver (author’s note: we remember tha the show hosted Corentin de Chatelperron with TaraTari, Gold of Bengale, le Bateau Lune…) as part of the Bamboo Biocomposite project with the “Khong Sao” (“no problem” in Vietnamese). This is a riverboat (from the Mekong Delta) used for light fishing ventures, the transport of a few passengers and the harvesting of water plants for livestock. The project consists in developing a new composite material derived from bamboo base planks, opening the way to safe and long-lasting boats for the poor population segments. It is also a means of readjusting the know-how of traditional boatbuilders and developing local production. The project first came to light in Bangladesh and was then relocated to Vietnam at the end of 2016 thanks to support of the Alstom Association for the Environment and the collaboration of the “bamboo Eco Museum” research Center at Phu An.

CLASS40  “TEAM AINA 151” – Association Aïna Enfance & Avenir d’Aymeric Chappellier (afloat on Pontoon 2)
In homage to guest of honor country, Madagascar, the new Class40 by Aymeric Chappellier, a Mach 40 V3, designed by naval architect Samuel Manuard will be present at the show.  His new boat, a performance breakthrough, incorporates four major developments: rigging, ballast, and appendages and the work on the weight centering. The V3 of the boat offers 15% more stiffness thanks to the new hull. With its outstanding pedigree, class40 151, already showed its mettle in the recent races: 1St in the 1000 milles des Sables (Sables 1000 miles), 1st in the second leg in the Sables-Horta-les Sables regatta and 3rd overall winner. It is getting ready for the Route du Rhum race scheduled to leave on 4 November next.
For his latest Class40 project, Aymeric Chappellier, with his sponsors, has opted to fly the colours of the  Aïna Enfance & Avenir association. This Reunion-based association has been active among deprived people in Madagascar (children and young mothers in danger) for the last 12 years. “I want to share this love for the oceans with you and also dedicate this sporting adventure to the furthering of a noble cause. I have a commitment of solidarity to supporting the Aïna association“.
